Do I have to use BT to get an extension phone line put into another room?

Question

Do I have to use BT to get an extension phone line put into another room?
I assume BT will be more expensive. Can an electrician do it? I live in Portsmouth if you know of anyone!!

Answer

if the wire is there you can do the work yourself if you want to its a very easy process to put in a phone line. just when you do put in the line make sure all other phones are disconnected from the rest of the line just empty phone sockets around your home prior to the work on the extension.brbrif you dont have a socket on the coil of wire you can get one at most good diy stores. BampQ amongst others. they normally come with full wireing instructions.brbrbut if in doubt about your abilities to follow directions then call in BT as they are responsible for installing and maintaining the phone lines in the UK. I forget what the new vans have on them but BTs line maintenance department has changed name i think its connections or something begining with a C at least. but you go through your phone provider to get them to install a line telewest or other will normally probably send out a bt engineer to do the work.
